If you are dealing with acne breakouts, enlarged pores or post inflammatory pigment changes (dark spots) there are a few tried and true remedies to clear your skin. These solutions have been proven through research to be the most effective.
1. Clogged pores need salicylic acid.
Salicylic acid is a skin care superstar. It can minimize the appearance of pores, gently exfoliates, and dissolves the debris that can lead to blackheads and breakouts.2. Treat discoloration that occurs after an acne outbreak.
It is not bad enough to have to suffer an acne flare, you then have to deal with the red or dark mark that lasts for months after the flare. To treat these stubborn spots, use products with retinol and vitamin C. These will give stubborn spots a one two punch! I also advise daily SPF 30 sunscreen.
3. Minimize the appearance of pores with niacinamide.
While salicylic acid can help clean out pores, niacinamide helps return pores to their smaller size. It is also gentle and can be easily incorporated into your routine.4. Use gentle products.
Avoid harsh scrubs and brushes with stiff bristles. This can further irritate skin and even cause outbreaks.5. Be consistent.
More often than not, my patients come to me saying a product did not work and give up after only a week or two. It takes 2-3 months for most skin care products to work. I suggest using a full supply of a product before changing it up.
