5 Skin Care Tips For An Active Lifestyle

Nov 4, 2019 | Trending Topics

Congrats on starting a consistent workout routine!  You are flexing your hot girl muscles and we see you! Yet, don’t neglect your skin while you are working on those glutes.

Your skin takes a beating when working out. No matter if it’s at your favorite yoga studio or outdoors, I have some easy skin care tips that will fit into your active lifestyle and  keep your skin looking beautiful!

1. Wash face before and after working out.
It is not a good idea to go have a hot, sweaty workout with full make up. Sweat mixes with the makeup and dirt already on your face and your pores suck that right up. This leads to clogged pores which = acne flares. Don’t let this happen to you. Cleanse your face before and after a workout. If you feel like you would rather die than work out in public sans makeup, wear something very light and oil free. Pop on a bright lipstick, add that natural workout glow. and you will look stunning!

2. Keep your hair off your face.
Not only is it distracting you when you’re in the zone, your hair can also carry oil and dirt that then gets on your face. Pin your hair up or wear a head band.

3. Change clothes STAT.
They have made athletic wear so cute that it is tempting to run errands all day after your workout. However, this is a bad habit. Those wet clothes trap bacteria against your skin not to mention you are carrying those gym germs in your clothing all around town. And that’s just ewwww.

4. Don’t forget the sunscreen.
All too often my patients who run or who ride bikes tell me they skip sunscreen because it runs down their face and burns their eyes. So the very people who need it the most are the ones who avoid it. There are sun screens that are designed for active people that won’t run off. Sure, they are often more white and pasty but you’re protecting your skin from cancer so suck it up! I also recommend photo protective clothing which is clothing that is also SPF. They have light, fabrics and no one will be able to tell the difference from any other active wear.

5. Take care of your feet.
If you have ever had athletes foot (tinea pedis) you already know the drill! Athlete’s foot is caused by a fungus and people are often exposed in the gym. I advise keeping a pair of shower shoes in your bag. Wear these at all times in the locker room, including the shower and poolside.

Now that you know how to keep our skin on point while working out, give me 20 burpees! Go!
