I’ve said it before and I will say it again. I don’t like the term “anti -aging”.
We are all going to age. It’s inevitable. What I want is to have the healthiest skin possible at any age.
Most of us don’t like the changes our skin undergoes as we age. We start to notice new lines and uneven skin tone that seems to come out of nowhere. Just this morning I woke up with a spot that I swear wasn’t there yesterday!
While I won’t ever promise that you will look 20 again, I do have some tips that can help you look the best version of yourself at any age.
#1: Be Diligent About Sunscreen
I know I say this all of the time but that is how important it is. Applying broad spectrum SPF 30 every single day of the year is the single most important thing you can do for your skin. It really is. Trust me on this. Just do it.
#2: Use an AHA or BHA Exfoliant
So often when I talk to my patients, they think of exfoliating as using a harsh scrub on their skin. I always ask, “what are you scrubbing off?” A leave on exfoliant while having your skin naturally behaving just like it did when you were younger. BHA (salicylic acid) works on the upper layers of skin while AHA (such as glycolic acid and lactic acids) break the hold of dull, dead skin on the surface. Once these bonds are broken, skin becomes more even and bright.
#3: Use Skin Renewing Ingredients
This is where you want to make an investment. Good quality products backed by scientific research will yield the best results. Look for ingredients with stable antioxidants like vitamin C, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and retinol. If you want these products to pack more punch, I suggest using a facial massaging roller such as our Lift +Tone Germanium Massaging Roller after applying your serum for better penetration and to increase blood flow to your skin. #4: Get Your ZZZZs
Skin rejuvenates faster overnight. While you are resting, your body repairs itself. Growth hormones are stimulated which allows for repair of damaged skin cells. The term beauty sleep is real.
Keep in mind, that none of these tips are effective without consistency and a little patience.
Skin health is determined by how well you take care of your skin. And remember, self-care includes skin care.
