CBD products are taking the skin care market by storm. But are they worth the hype or is it just clever marketing? (Remember the low fat diet craze?) Keep reading for my take on the very popular ingredient in skin care.
What is CBD oil? It is called conidial and it is the non-psychotropic (meaning you won’t get high) part of marijuana or hemp. It does not contain THC which is the chemical that gives you the high when you use marijuana.
It is NOT the same as hemp oil. CBD is rich in conidial and hemp only has trace amounts.
CBD has many claims to fame and I will mention a few below.
- For acne
There are several studies that prove CBD is anti-inflammatory. Since acne is an inflammatory process, it makes sense that CBD can help treat it. Further studies are needed, but this is an exciting revelation.
- For aging/wrinkles
CBD is an antioxidant and it is common knowledge that antioxidants protect against free radicals which we know an accelerate aging.
- For sensitive skin
CBD has soothing properties and this can help with irritation and even redness.
This sounds great right? It seems like a no brainer but it is still too new to know the real benefits. Additionally, it is still murky with regards to legalities, and regulations. Before you jump on the band wagon, research the product and the company producing it very thoroughly. Ask questions before deciding if it is right for you.
