Halloween is the perfect excuse to go all out with your make up. Have fun transforming yourself into a clown, a ghost or your favorite scary character. Just don’t get so caught up in the fun that you Halloween look turns into a skin rash that will scare anyone!
1. Read the ingredients
You will only be wearing your make up look for one night (let’s hope) but it is still important to know what you’re putting all over your face. Heavy stage or costume make up is more likely to clog pores because it is difficult to wash off and often has other harsh ingredients that work great for full coverage but can cause irritation. I recommend artist approved makeup such as Mehron, Make up Forever, or MAC.
2. Don’t recycle last year’s Halloween make up
It is tempting to recycle last year’s white vampire make up for this year’s clown look but don’t do it. Bacteria has a chance to accumulate so it is best to toss it out.
3. Do a spot test.
Before you rub something new all over your face, I advise a spot test on the back of your hand or the inside of your arm. Do this for a few days to make sure none of the ingredients are an irritant for you.
4. Prep your face properly
Putting new makeup on top of dirty skin or an old layer of makeup is not a good idea. This is even worse when using stage make up. Cleanse your skin carefully and apply a moisturizer before applying your Halloween make up.
5. Double or Triple wash before bed.
Nothing is scarier than going to be in full make up, especially Halloween make up. No matter how late the party goes, cleanse face then follow with a make-up remover . As an added step, gently exfoliate with a moisturizing cleanser then slap on some moisturizer before passing out in a candy induced coma.
