So what the heck is micellar water, anyway?
If you are like me, you have been seeing ads promoting micellar water. You may also be wondering, “What the heck is it and why do I need it?”
Micellar (pronounced my-sell-er) water is a combination of purified water; hydrating ingredients, such as glycerin; and low concentrations of extremely mild surfactants.
The molecules in this solution naturally group together to form microscopic spheres called micelles, which act like magnets for dirt and oil. (Sounding good so far, right?!)
When you wipe a cotton ball soaked with the cleanser along your face, the micelles adhere to the cotton while pulling makeup, sebum, and any other daily unpleasantness off the skin. Picture a big body builder tugging on your glittery mascara. Better yet, the formulas are so light and gentle that there’s no need to rinse them off, which means that the moisturizing ingredients can stay behind to be absorbed.
I really love this for acne – prone skin. Products often used to treat acne are really drying and micellar water will cleanse skin without doing that.
It is also great when you can’t get to a sink to wash your face or if you want to wipe sweat and debris off your face after a work- out.
There are several brands of micellar water. I think there is something to be said about longevity, so I like Bioderma. It has been available for decades in French shops but is now very popular in the states.
Here’s to your perfect skin!
